About this digital tool

The volume calculator finds how much space a solid occupies. Choose the solid (cuboid, cube, sphere, cylinder or cone), enter the required dimensions and get the volume instantly. It suits tanks, boxes, pipes, pools and school homework.

The formulas are: cuboid length × width × height, cube a³, sphere 4/3 × π × r³, cylinder π × r² × h and cone 1/3 × π × r² × h. For example, a 4 × 3 × 2 box has a volume of 24, a sphere with radius 3 has 4/3 × π × 27 ≈ 113.10, while a cone with radius 3 and height 4 has 1/3 × π × 9 × 4 ≈ 37.70. Make sure all dimensions are in the same unit.

How to use

  1. Choose the solid.
  2. Enter the required dimensions.
  3. See the volume in cubic units.

Frequently asked questions

How is the volume of a cylinder calculated?

Volume = π × r² × height. E.g. r = 3, height = 10: 3.1416 × 9 × 10 ≈ 282.7 cubic units.

How is the volume of a sphere calculated?

V = 4/3 × π × r³. E.g. for r = 3: 4/3 × π × 27 = 36π ≈ 113.10 cubic units.

How is the volume of a cone calculated?

It is one third of the cylinder with the same base and height: V = 1/3 × π × r² × h. For r = 3 and h = 4, V = 12π ≈ 37.70.

How many litres are in 1 cubic metre?

1 m³ is 1,000 litres. So a tank of 2 × 1 × 0.5 metres has a volume of 1 m³ or 1,000 litres.
