About this digital tool
The inflation calculator shows how the purchasing power of money changes over the years. Enter an amount, a period and the average annual inflation rate, and the tool calculates what the same item would cost in the future, or what an amount from the past is worth today. The formula: future price = price today × (1 + inflation)^years.
It is useful for savings, pensions, salaries and rents. If money sits without earning interest, it loses real value every year. Historical rates can be found at INSTAT and the Bank of Albania, but future inflation is uncertain, so the result is only an indicative scenario.
How to use
- Enter the starting amount.
- Set the annual inflation rate and the period.
- See the reduced purchasing power and the price increase required.
Frequently asked questions
What is the current inflation rate in Albania?
Inflation is measured by INSTAT and changes every month. The Bank of Albania targets inflation of around 3%. See the latest data on the INSTAT website.
How does inflation affect savings?
If the deposit interest rate is lower than inflation, savings lose real purchasing power even though the nominal amount grows.
How is the effect of inflation on an amount calculated?
Multiply the price by (1 + rate)^years. With 3% inflation a year, a product that costs 100,000 lek today will cost about 134,000 lek in 10 years.
What is purchasing power?
It is the quantity of goods and services you can buy with a sum of money. When prices rise, the same sum buys less, so purchasing power falls.
How do I protect myself from inflation?
Look for returns above inflation: deposits or investments with a rate higher than price growth, and pay raises that keep pace with it. Compare deposit interest with inflation to see the real return.
