About this digital tool

A loan payment calculator estimates the monthly installment for a fixed-rate loan using the loan amount, annual interest rate and repayment term. It is most useful before applying for a car loan, personal loan or mortgage because it shows both affordability and total interest. The standard amortization formula spreads interest and principal across the term, so early payments contain more interest and later payments repay more principal. Fees, variable rates and insurance can change the final bank offer, so use the result as a planning estimate.

How to use

  1. Enter the loan amount.
  2. Enter the annual interest rate.
  3. Choose the repayment term.
  4. Review monthly payment, total paid and total interest.

Frequently asked questions

What affects the monthly loan payment most?

The loan amount, interest rate and term are the biggest drivers. Extra fees can also increase the real cost.

Is this the same as a bank offer?

No. It is an estimate. A bank may include fees, insurance, variable-rate terms or eligibility conditions.

How is the monthly payment calculated?

The tool uses the annuity formula: the payment depends on the amount, the monthly interest rate and the number of payments. Each payment covers that month's interest plus part of the principal.

Does a longer term cost more?

The monthly payment goes down, but you pay more interest in total because the principal stays unpaid for longer. Choose the shortest term you can comfortably afford.
